December 2010
My house is trashed. I am sick.
I’m doing the best I can.  Right now, the best I can is really slummy ghettofabulous.

I am newly showered and wearing a cherry red Victoria’s Secret lace thong, and at this stage of the cold flu plague it doesn’t even make me feel sexy.  Sigh.

Lil Indy
I chat with this person on twitter, who runs an etsy shop that sells most fly doodads made from LEGO mini figs.  My 5yr old son is slightly LEGO Indiana Jones (and non LEGO Indiana Jones) obsessed.  This was the Christmas of Indy for him, as he acquired the original LEGO game for Wii, the first season of the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles and a special little doodag that Pam custom made for me: a...

While I was waiting for my alkaseltzer version of Day Quil to take effect, I decided to tote my new books upstairs and put them away in my very gorgeous arch shaped built in bookshelves.  Upon arriving at the top of the stairs I realized that I had books shoved this way and that way and there was no room for my new beloveds. I began to rearrnage, place books in series in order, etc.  It really...

30 Days of Knitting, the major catch up
I am behind on this.  I blame tumblr.  Because the first day I missed was “do you have yarn you don’t know what to do with” and I went to great lengths to get pictures, yardages, weights, ideas? and I had a lovely post with many yarn porn pics and when I hit “Creat Post” it dumped everything but the title.  As this was right before Christmas and I had way too much to...

Help me out here. Somewhere on Tumblr SOMEONE is preparing to do a Knit A Long beginning New Year’s Day.  I know that the projects included the Shroom hat and I believe (mistakenly?) the Darkside Cowl.  I just CAN’T FIND them.  Any ideas?  Anyone?  Please?

A little bloodlust never hurt anyone
My Christmas-car-riding knit this year was a feather & fan sailors’ scarf titled “Countess Bathory Scarf” from the book Vampire Knits.  I don’t particularly care for feather and fan patterns, so don’t ask my why I chose it.  Maybe because I picked up a $1 skein of “Gala” yarn from Big Lots— is Big Lots selling their own yarn now? Cause the lable...

I don't fit in
I don’t fit in, anywhere, really.  Really. I am not trendy.  I can’t seem to do fashion other than blue jeans and t shirts, which I occasionally pair with high heels but not often.  I own about 6 pairs of shoes. 3 of these are sneakers.  I don’t know how to accessorize.  I have 2 purses and 3 pairs of earrings. I have 2 friends.  Literally, 2.  Plus 1 in Texas I’ve never...

A huge, poofy, sparkling purple satin Princess...
That’s what Hannah, my 2yr old daughter, is getting for Christmas.  She’s convinced she is a princess, that everything has to be purple, and no one suffers from things being sparkly. I made my Goddaughter Lily a larger pink version on this same dress for her birthday back in August (at her request) and when I bought the fabrics JoAnn’s had them on such a sale that I got them...

The Great Yarn Hunt...again
Since Walmart failed to find my “Decode” inspired hat, the great yarn hunt has begun…again.  Didn’t I do this already?  Last year I searched high and low for months.  I browsed yarns shops, craft stores, etsy for the perfect shade of purple worsted weight yarn.  I had a hat in my head.  Hayley’s purple hat from the Decode music video for Twilight.  Only I wanted mine...

30 Days of Knitting, Day 12
Day 12: Where do you keep your stash? Post pictures! I keep my yarn stash with my fabric stash, in plastic stacking drawer bins at the top of the stairs.  I have a small stash.  This is odd because I knit voraciously and I’m never without anything to knit or spin, though you wouldn’t necessarily think so looking at what I’ve “accumulated.” First we have the overall...

30 Days of Knitting, Day 11
Day 11: Do you have a “Knitter Hero” or someone that is just way too awesome for their own good? Do share! I really love the Yarn Harlot, Stephanie Pearl-McPhee.  My Mom got me one of her page-a-day calenders last year and I’ve enjoyed the wit and wisdom all year!  http://www.yarnharlot.ca/blog/

weekend knitter: Reasons To Knit Even If You Are... →
weekendknitter: Because you can appear to be so engrossed, even while knitting a garter stitch scarf, that you can ignore annoying, non-knitting people without appearing rude. Seriously, how could they know? Because developing a yarn habit is cheaper than developing a smoking habit. Usually. Because you can…  4. Because with a little skill you can remake that high-dollar...

30 Days of Knitting, Day 10
Day 10: Do you have a favorite pattern or designer? I do not have a favorite designer.  I tend to make up patterns as I go along, but a few patterns I have knit and enjoyed are (WWW links for you non ravelry people!): Shroom: a super fast slouchy lace hat knit on huge needles with bulky yarn. I’ve knit 3 and also a cowl from the same pattern.  Fun with the yo’s....

30 Days of Knitting, Day 9
Day 9: What fiber or yarn do you love working with? I have uber sensitive skin.  Everything itches me, since childhood.  Cotton itches me.  I kid you not.  That said, I love spinning merino wool fiber and also super wash BFL, and of course things like silk, milk fiber and bamboo.  As far as yarns… Baby items: I like Jeannee by Plymouth Yarns.  It has a nice feel, a nice drape.  I’ve...

30 Days of Knitting, Day 8
Day 8: What’s your most challenging project? My most challenging project may have been my Traveling Woman shawl that a bunch of us on Twitter did last January as a #TwitKAL.  I’d never done lace before and I’d never done a shawl before. It definitely wasn’t perfect but it was so much fun to knit.  It went very quickly all things considered, just because I was so enthralled with...

Aww Mama!
We are not playing baseball in the house. We are not playing golf, or football, with the baseball bat and ball, in the house. You will let go of the baseball bat. And you will go put the bat and ball back in the big toy box. And then you will leave them alone. Two pairs of huge eyes, one brown, one blue stand there and blink at me.

30 Days of Knitting, Day 7
Day 7: Your least favorite? My least favorite thing I’ve knit? Oh this could be a list all on its own.  Right off the top of my head I’ll choose the hat and scarf set I knit for Jeremiah when he was 2.  He wanted a matching set, with a scarf he only wore once.  It was some semi-deplorable Burnat softee acrylic yarn in bright blue to kelly green variagated colorway.  I knit the hat...

Day 6: What is your favorite piece that you’ve knit? My favorite?  I don’t have a total favorite. How about I give you the top 3? My favorite of these (I guess would be my favorite) was my Not Hayley’s Decode hat.  The music video “Decode” by Paramore for the Twilight soundtrack inspired this hat.  The first time I saw that video I became obsessed with Hayley’s...

30 Days of Knitting 4 & 5
Day 4: How did you learn how to knit? Day 5: How long did it take from the time your learned how to knit, to finish your first project? My Mom taught me to knit.  I guess I covered this last time.  She’s a righty, I’m a lefty, and that doesn’t seem to matter at all ‘cause we both have mad ninja-knitting skills and can work on either others’ projects. I don’t...

The Good, the Bad and the almost funny
Today was a whiplash sort of day.  I woke up feeling crappy; I developed a headache that settled around my eyes.  I went to the childcare staff Christmas party and was the only person not childless, but my kids were sort of good and didn’t tear down Sherri’s beautimous house so I guess it’s all good. The bad: I finished knitting “Tony’s” new hat and it fit...
